17 June 2009 - IL - 4585 - Netanya

I was so exicited when I found a card from Israel in my mailbox!!! I have been there three times and I really like it there. I have been to Eilat and Jeruzalem. Jeruzalem is a beautiful city and a few weeks ago I found a beautiful card from Jeruzalem on postcrossing and I decided to add it to my favourites on my postcard wall. I received this card and I'm so happy with it! And Israel has only 139 users! The card has traveled a distance of 3,254 Kms in 14 days!

15 June 2009 - DE-358889 - Asslar

On 15th June I found a card from Germany in my mailbox! It is the third card in a row I received from Germany via the officials. The card has travelled a distance of 286 kms in 5 days.

Netherlands RR - Group 49 - UK

I received a beautiful card from the United Kingdom , send by Emerald via the Netherlands RR. In the time I received this card of Bath, one of my best friends was traveling throughout the UK and has send a card from Bath as well. Unfortunatley I didn't receive her card while everyone she send one did... so I was happy when I found a card from the beautiful place send by someone else. At the moment, I have receive the cards of my friends last week but with a big sticker on it from Royal Airmail that the postage was unsufficient... Bath is an UNESCO site as well and it is my first card from the UK via Postcrossing!

Founded by the Romans as a thermal spa, Bath became an important centre of the wool industry in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, under George III, it developed into an elegant town with neoclassical Palladian buildings, which blend harmoniously with the Roman baths.

Netherland RR - Group 56 - Brasil

I have recieved a lot of cards via the Round Robins from Brasil but they are different every time and I like the fact to recieve so many different cards from the same country! This one was send via the Netherlands RR by Mconceicao. It shows the Gruta Reo do Mato and it must be a beautiful place to see in real!

Slavic Countries RR - Group 58

I received this beautiful card from Czech Republic from Jantara while I was on vacation. It is a great view from the city Praha, which is an UNESCO site as well.

Built between the 11th and 18th centuries, the Old Town, the Lesser Town and the New Town speak of the great architectural and cultural influence enjoyed by this city since the Middle Ages. The many magnificent monuments, such as Hradcani Castle, St Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge and numerous churches and palaces, built mostly in the 14th century under the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV.

The Netherlands RR - Group 63

I received this card a 1,5 week ago from littlebetty from Austrai via the Netherlands RR - Group 63. It shows the capital city of her country. It is a great card! The historic centre of Vienna is an UNESCO world heritage site as well!

Vienna developed from early Celtic and Roman settlements into a Medieval and Baroque city, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It played an essential role as a leading European music centre, from the great age of Viennese Classicism through the early part of the 20th century. The historic centre of Vienna is rich in architectural ensembles, including Baroque castles and gardens, as well as the late-19th-century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.

Slavic countries RR - Special Group 31 - Sao Paulo

With this card I completed Special Group 31 in the Slavic Countries RR. It was sent by Xiru from Brazil . The day before I received this card, I receive a card from the same UNESCO site as well via the UNESCO but the cards a very different and I like them both! It must be beautiful there.

The park shares with Iguazú National Park in Argentina one of the world’s largest and most impressive waterfalls, extending over some 2,700 m. It is home to many rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, among them the giant otter and the giant anteater. The clouds of spray produced by the waterfall are conducive to the growth of lush vegetation.

The Netherlands RR - Group 49 - Albuquerque

My first UNESCO site from the USA was send by nowaglas via the Netherlands RR - Group 49. Unfortunatley the mail delivery has put a barcode on the front so I have cut off a part of the card because of this ugly thing. The card shows us Taos Pueblo in New Mexico.

Situated in the valley of a small tributary of the Rio Grande, this adobe settlement – consisting of dwellings and ceremonial buildings – represents the culture of the Pueblo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico.

Europe RR - UNESCO Group 3 - Sintra

The Europe RR was completed for me with this great card from Portugal . It shows the landscape of Sintra and was send by Rita_simoes. It is an UNESCO site as well and my second from Portugal.

In the 19th century Sintra became the first centre of European Romantic architecture. Ferdinand II turned a ruined monastery into a castle where this new sensitivity was displayed in the use of Gothic, Egyptian, Moorish and Renaissance elements and in the creation of a park blending local and exotic species of trees. Other fine dwellings, built along the same lines in the surrounding serra, created a unique combination of parks and gardens which influenced the development of landscape architecture throughout Europe.

Slavic Countries RR - Special Group 31 - Moscow

Before I went on holidays, I received many cards and I didn't had time to update this blog so now I'm trying to update everything but the cards keep on coming :) This beautiful card comes from Russia . It was send by Anasty via the Slavic Countries RR. It shows the Trinity - St Sergius Monastry. I really like these orthodox monastry. It is a new addition for my UNESCO collection and the first I received UNESCO site from Russia till sofar :)

This is a fine example of a working Orthodox monastery, with military features that are typical of the 15th to the 18th century, the period during which it developed. The main church of the Lavra, the Cathedral of the Assumption (echoing the Kremlin Cathedral of the same name), contains the tomb of Boris Godunov. Among the treasures of the Lavra is the famous icon, The Trinity, by Andrei Rublev.

Another Wishlist tag - Indonesia

This beautiful card was send by shinta from Indonesia via the Another Wistlist tag. It shows the Borobudur, the largest buddhist temple and it is an UNESCO world heritage site.

This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s.

I have received a few cards from Finland till sofar and the one I received last saturday is very beautiful and one of my favourites! I like the different lake views on this card. The card has travelled a distance of 1,441 kms in 4 days.

Netherlands RR - Special Group 58 - Sao Paulo

I received my first UNESCO site from Brazil last saturday from VBforming via The Netherlands RR Special Group 58. The card is a panoramic view of Pelourinho at Night. It is a district of the historical centre of Salvador de Bahia.

As the first capital of Brazil, from 1549 to 1763, Salvador de Bahia witnessed the blending of European, African and Amerindian cultures. It was also, from 1558, the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations. The city has managed to preserve many outstanding Renaissance buildings. A special feature of the old town are the brightly coloured houses, often decorated with fine stucco-work.

Netherlands RR - Special Group 49 - Kyiv

Saturday I receveid again a card from Ukraïne . Helen_Orlova sent me this nice card from Kiev via the Netherlands Round Robin. It shows the Lavra. I like these buildings very much.

Designed to rival Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, Kiev's Saint-Sophia Cathedral symbolizes the 'new Constantinople', capital of the Christian principality of Kiev, which was created in the 11th century in a region evangelized after the baptism of St Vladimir in 988. The spiritual and intellectual influence of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra contributed to the spread of Orthodox thought and the Orthodox faith in the Russian world from the 17th to the 19th century.

You Choose Unesco - Germany

Last Friday I received this beautiful UNESCO card from Appelveichen from Germany via the U Choose UNESCO tag. It shows the city Regensburg.

"Located on the Danube River in Bavaria, this medieval town contains many buildings of exceptional quality that testify to its history as a trading centre and to its influence on the region from the 9th century. A notable number of historic structures span some two millennia and include ancient Roman, Romanesque and Gothic buildings. Regensburg’s 11th- to 13th-century architecture – including the market, city hall and cathedral – still defines the character of the town marked by tall buildings, dark and narrow lanes, and strong fortifications. The buildings include medieval patrician houses and towers, a large number of churches and monastic ensembles as well as the 12th-century Old Bridge, which dates from. The town is also remarkable for the vestiges testifing to its rich history as one of the centres of the Holy Roman Empire that turned to Protestantism."

Russia - Rest the World Tag - Russia

Last Friday I received a beautiful nightview from Moscow! It was send by Citynettle from Russia . I have been to Moscow in January to attend the Worldchampionship Sprint speedskating. It was an amazing experience and I'm very happy that I took the chance to visit Moscow and watch the sport I really like. We did some sightseeing as well. We went to the Kremlin, Red Square and Novodevichy Monastry. On this postcard you see some different things of Moscow by night. I really like it to receive cards from places I have been to!

Slavic Countries RR - Special Group 31 - Kyiv

In some Round Robins, you see people whom you have send a card before. But the nice thing of Round Robins is that it seems that people do more effort to send something you will like. I received last week my second card from Alivemary from Ukraïne and this time via Special Group 31 UNESCO of the Slavic Countries RR. The card shows the St Sophia Cathedral.

Designed to rival Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, Kiev's Saint-Sophia Cathedral symbolizes the 'new Constantinople', capital of the Christian principality of Kiev, which was created in the 11th century in a region evangelized after the baptism of St Vladimir in 988. 4 June 2009 - IT - 45861 - Milano

I have never been to Milano, but it must be beautiful. Last week, I received a very great official from Italy . The card has travelled a distance of 795 kms in 10 Days. The cards shows us the second bigges Gothic Church of the world; the Duomo Santa Maria Nascente.

Slavic Countries RR - Group 56 - Mem Martins

Last Wednesday I received my first UNESCO card from Portugal ! The card is send by Ninocas via Special UNESCO groep 31 in the Slavic Countries RR. The cards shows us the St Francis Church in the historical centre of Evora.

"This museum-city, whose roots go back to Roman times, reached its golden age in the 15th century, when it became the residence of the Portuguese kings. Its unique quality stems from the whitewashed houses decorated with azulejos and wrought-iron balconies dating from the 16th to the 18th century. Its monuments had a profound influence on Portuguese architecture in Brazil."
