One of my friends is addicted to Norway and had lived there for a while. I have visited her in April and it is such a beautiful country. Therefore, I was very happy when I found a Norwegian postcard in my mailbox from Postcrossing! It has travelled a distance of 765 in 4 days.
The card shows some postmarks but the Urnes Stavkirke as well and that is an UNESCO site. It is my first card from Norway and of course my first UNESCO site of Norway! And the funniest thing was that the one who send this to me, likes speedskating as well :)
The wooden church of Urnes (the stavkirke) stands in the natural setting of Sogn og Fjordane. It was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and is an outstanding example of traditional Scandinavian wooden architecture. It brings together traces of Celtic art, Viking traditions and Romanesque spatial structures.
This beautiful card comes from Thailand and has travelled a distance of 9,175 Kms in 10 days. It shows a verly lovely and peaceful marine national park!
This is the first time I got a Thank You card and it was send from such an original place! Elefantus from Italy, went to Isle of Man and descided to send a Thank You card from this Island! The Isle Of Man is a selfgoverning British Crown dependency and therefore it has his own flag.
I was very happy when I found a 'three unesco in one' card! It was send by svetluska from Czech Republic . It has travelled a distance of 824 kms in 6 days.
The card shows the Historic Centre of Telč, the Pilgrimage Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená Hora, the Jewish Quarter and St Procopius' Basilica in Třebíč. I didn't had any cards of these unesco sites.
#1 Historic Centre of Telč The houses in Telc, which stands on a hilltop, were originally built of wood. After a fire in the late 14th century, the town was rebuilt in stone, surrounded by walls and further strengthened by a network of artificial ponds. The town's Gothic castle was reconstructed in High Gothic style in the late 15th century.
#2 The Pilgrimage Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená Hora This pilgrimage church, built in honour of St John of Nepomuk, stands at Zelená Hora, not far from Ždár nad Sázavou in Moravia. Constructed at the beginning of the 18th century on a star-shaped plan, it is the most unusual work by the great architect Jan Blazej Santini, whose highly original style falls between neo-Gothic and Baroque.
#3 The Jewish Quarter and St Procopius' Basilica in Třebíč. The ensemble of the Jewish Quarter, the old Jewish cemetery and the Basilica of St Procopius in Trebíc are reminders of the co-existence of Jewish and Christian cultures from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The Jewish Quarter bears outstanding testimony to the different aspects of the life of this community. St Procopius Basilica, built as part of the Benedictine monastery in the early 13th century, is a remarkable example of the influence of Western European architectural heritage in this region.
On the last day of September, I received a card from a great new country! This card was send from Hong Kong . Hong Kong has only 554 users so I'm very happy that I got this one. The card has travelled a distance of 9,299 Kms in 33 days. Very long I guess.
I have received a lot of lovely cards from Xiru before. It is my fifth card from this user from Basil . It was send via the Slavic Countries RR. It shows Petrópolis.
