When I found this card from Finland
in my mailbox, I was directly thinking about my childhood. During my childhood this group, The Spice Girls, was very famous and I got their cd's, a lot of posters and other things like photo's and candy you could collect from this girlgroup. It is almost 10 years ago that they were splitt up. It is great to receive suchs cards. It has travelled a distance of 1,524 km in 9 days.
I really like this one, which I received from Poland
. It was send by Bodexs. It shows us the UNESCO site Białowieża Forest, which is situated in Belarus and Poland. This is the Polish part.
Situated on the watershed of the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea, this immense forest range, consisting of evergreens and broad-leaved trees, is home to some remarkable animal life, including rare mammals such as the wolf, the lynx and the otter, as well as some 300 European Bison, a species which has been reintroduced into the park.
Via the Slavic countries RR I received this card from Futurist from Russia
. It shows us Saint Petersburg.
The 'Venice of the North', with its numerous canals and more than 400 bridges, is the result of a vast urban project begun in 1703 under Peter the Great. Later known as Leningrad (in the former USSR), the city is closely associated with the October Revolution. Its architectural heritage reconciles the very different Baroque and pure neoclassical styles, as can be seen in the Admiralty, the Winter Palace, the Marble Palace and the Hermitage.
It has been a long time ago I did some private swapping. I saw on the forum that SabineG would like to swap German Unesco sites for other Unesco sites. Because of the fact I didn't have my German collection complete, I decided to swap. We swapped three cards and I received those lovely cards from Germany
.#1 Upper Middle Rhine Valley
The 65km-stretch of the Middle Rhine Valley, with its castles, historic towns and vineyards, graphically illustrates the long history of human involvement with a dramatic and varied natural landscape. It is intimately associated with history and legend and for centuries has exercised a powerful influence on writers, artists and composers.#2 Wadden Sea
The Wadden Sea comprises the Dutch Wadden Sea Conservation Area and the German Wadden Sea National Parks of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. It is a large temperate, relatively flat coastal wetland environment, formed by the intricate interactions between physical and biological factors that have given rise to a multitude of transitional habitats with tidal channels, sandy shoals, sea-grass meadows, mussel beds, sandbars, mudflats, salt marshes, estuaries, beaches and dunes. The inscribed site represents over 66% of the whole Wadden Sea and is home to numerous plant and animal species, including marine mammals such as the harbour seal, grey seal and harbour porpoise. It is also a breeding and wintering area for up to 12 millions birds per annum and it supports more than 10 percent of 29 species. The site is one of the last remaining natural, large-scale, intertidal ecosystems where natural processes continue to function largely undisturbed.#3 Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen
The Zollverein industrial complex in Land Nordrhein-Westfalen consists of the complete infrastructure of a historical coal-mining site, with some 20th-century buildings of outstanding architectural merit. It constitutes remarkable material evidence of the evolution and decline of an essential industry over the past 150 years.
I receveid this card from Malaysia
, although you wont think about this country in the first place because it shows something different; New Orleans. The card has travelled a distance of 10,180 km in 11 days.
This is the second card I received from the Netherlands
this year. Normally I do not received that much card of the Netherlands. It has travelled a distance of 87 kms in 3 days. The card shows us the city council of Halsteren.
With Christmas, I had some days off so I spend some time on the postcrossing forum to tag in the unescotags. This is one of the cards I received last week. It was send by Msmoney from Finland
. The card shows us the high coast in Finland.
The Kvarken Archipelago (Finland) and the High Coast (Sweden) are situated in the Gulf of Bothnia, a northern extension of the Baltic Sea. The 5,600 islands of the Kvarken Archipelago feature unusual ridged washboard moraines, ‘De Geer moraines’, formed by the melting of the continental ice sheet, 10,000 to 24,000 years ago. The Archipelago is continuously rising from the sea in a process of rapid glacio-isostatic uplift, whereby the land, previously weighed down under the weight of a glacier, lifts at rates that are among the highest in the world. As a consequence islands appear and unite, peninsulas expand, and lakes evolve from bays and develop into marshes and peat fens. The High Coast has also been largely shaped by the combined processes of glaciation, glacial retreat and the emergence of new land from the sea. Since the last retreat of the ice from the High Coast 9,600 years ago, the uplift has been in the order of 285 m which is the highest known ''rebound''. The site affords outstanding opportunities for the understanding of the important processes that formed the glaciated and land uplift areas of the Earth''s surface.
Via the Slavic Countries RR I also received this card from inkarri, from Poland
. It shows us the city of Poznan. it is the second card I received from this city and both postcards show the market place.
I hardly receive cards from Croatia
. It has 348 postcrossingmember. This one is received via the Slavic Countries RR and send by Nessa Saelind. It shows us the Split Harbour with in the background a part of Diocletian Palace, which is an UNESCO site. It is the first UNESCO site from this country in my collection.
The ruins of Diocletian's Palace, built between the late 3rd and the early 4th centuries A.D., can be found throughout the city. The cathedral was built in the Middle Ages, reusing materials from the ancient mausoleum. Twelfth- and 13th-century Romanesque churches, medieval fortifications, 15th-century Gothic palaces and other palaces in Renaissance and Baroque style make up the rest of the protected area.
One of my wishlistsubjects are childrenbooks illustrions. I received one via the Netherlands RR from Aki from Japan
. I like it, especially the glitters.
On the last day of 2009 I received this beautiful art card from the USA

I have received most of my cards from Brasil via Round Robins. Two weeks ago, I found this official from Brasil
in my mailbox. It has travelled a distance of 9,769 Kms in 19 days. It shows a panoramic view from Sao Paulo. It shows us the government buildings and a stadium.
It is nice to receive a card from your own country. The last time was three months ago and I was happy when I saw a card from the Netherlands
in my mailbox. It has travelled a distance of 48 kms in 5 days. A little bit long for a card from the Netherlands but the postdelivery was very busy because of all those christmascards!
My last card I received on the 19the of December is this card from the USA
. It has travelled a distance of 7,481 kms in 47 days. Another card what is might be lost I guess.I was very disappointed when I receive this card. Normally I wont say this but because the sender knows the English language, I didn't like it that there is nothing written on the back...I don't even know where these gulf coast is situated!
I received a few cards on the 19 December of 2009. This one from China
as well. I think it has been stuck somewhere because it has travelled a distance of 9,165 kms in 52 days (!). Normally postcards from China are a lot faster.
